I've been wanting to try this ever since I'd heard about it, but being in California kept me from it. I've had this bottle in my fridge for a minute, and tomorrow's a big day, so here goes. (And for background, this is Dogfish's take on a traditional Finnish sahti, of which I've had a few and which are quite odd.) Big chai spice in the nose, maybe a bit of a hefeweizen yeast too. A bit lighter in body and flavor than I expected. Spices, a bit of tea astringency, bubble gum yeast. I'm not picking up the juniper so much. Very surprised this is 9%; it's remarkably drinkable. It's a different flavor profile, for sure, but pretty tasty and less crazy than expected. I could definitely drink this again - I think I wouldn't mind at all if it were available in four packs, like the Midas Touch. Strongly recommended.

This beer sounds super fascinating. Dogfish Head is all about the unusual experimentations with their random beers, and I always am interested. Sometimes they are good, sometimes they whiff, but at least they're trying.
If I see this in the store I'll have to check it out. By the way speaking of juniper notes and Scandinavian beers, I recommend you give a beer called Norwegian Wood by Haandbryggerit a try. Very interesting, complex, and delicious. Sounds like it's in a similar vein to this.
Hi! I have been searching for this beer in the SF area recently, but have only found it on the beer menu at Healthy Spirits, under "sold out"! Any recommendations for where I might find it?
Great blog!
Hi Robin!
Unfortunately (for your question, anyway), I'm no longer in the bay area, so I'm not really sure where to send you. I'd definitely recommend asking the guy at Healthy Spirits (whose name escapes me) if he's expecting it again soon - he's a nice guy, especially if you're in there often enough buying nice enough stuff that he remembers you.
It was definitely the thing I liked least about the bay area, though, that lots of east coast breweries don't distribute there. Dogfish Head works with only one distributor for all of California, and if that distributor doesn't want to bother carrying something (like, say, my beloved Indian Brown Ale), you simply can't get it.
That said, if Healthy Spirits claimed to have it at one point, then there's a decent chance they'll have it again or be able to point you someplace else.
Thanks for reading, and good luck!
